An 18-year-old Anaheim man has been arrested for Gross Vehicular Manslaughter While Intoxicated, Felony DUI, and Unlicensed Driver following a fatal crash on the morning of July 30.
At 3:15 a.m. Sunday morning, Anaheim Police and Anaheim Fire & Rescue personnel responded to a roll-over traffic collision in the 1500 block of W. Ball Road.
Preliminary investigation revealed a Nissan Maxima was travelling westbound on Ball Rd from Walnut St at a high rate of speed. The 18-year-old driver lost control, travelled into oncoming traffic and collided into a Toyota Camry, which was turning into the driveway of an apartment complex on the south side of the street. The 34-year-old male driver of the Camry was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver of the Maxima was determined to be driving under the influence of alcohol/drugs and was arrested. A 17-year-old female passenger in the Maxima was transported to a local hospital in stable condition. The possibility the Maxima was involved in a street race prior to the collision is unconfirmed, but is being investigated.
Investigation revealed the decedent was turning into his driveway at the time of the collision. His pregnant wife was at home with the couple’s young child.
The arrestee has been identified as Jorge Esteban Lunas Martinez. He has now been booked, and his bail is set for $100,000.
Ball Rd remains closed in both directions between Walnut St and Loara St.
