If they met the goal, Principal Renee Jeffrey agreed to let students decorate her as an ice cream sundae. Students read 1,575 books and so it was on Friday, March 7, top readers at the school of 511 students took part in turning Jeffrey into a sundae dousing her with ice cream, Maraschinocherries, chocolate and caramel sauce, whipping cream, and chopped nuts. The top readers/decorators were 5th graders Jayme
Garza, Jorge Torres and Carmen Liberto; 3rd graders Jocelyn Acosta, Nahomi Raymundo, Evelin Zaragoza Godinez and Chaz Turrieta; 2nd graders Jesus Garza and Lilian Padilla and 6th grader San Juan Soliece. “If this gets kids to reading more in a week, that’s exciting,” said Jeffrey. “I’m so proud of the students for their reading – you did it – keep it up; read every day, for through reading you can have new adventures every day.”
