BP Coordinating Council helps

When we think of helping the less fortunate and/or those who are homeless, we may not always take into account that people have pets that need looking after as well, but one young lady from Buena Park did just that.
Taylor Michel, 15, a Sunny Hills High School student, who has been a Girl Scout for 11 years, wanted to make a difference for people and the community.
She has already earned her Bronze and Silver Girl Scout Awards and is currently working toward accomplishing the top Girl Scout “Gold” Award, which she has spent the past year working toward.
In the process, because Taylor loves pets and wanted to help people who are low-income and/or homeless who have pets; she met with members of the community and found that the Buena Park Coordinating Council would offer her a place to create her Pet Pantry.
She constructed a shelving unit and has collected donations of dog and cat food, pet bedding and normal animal supplies.
Taylor also made a flyer to educate people as to how to care for their pets and is working with The House of Blues Foundation Room in Anaheim, which has offered to collect pet donations for her Pet Pantry.
“I want to keep the pantry open and stocked for years to come and do my part to keep all pets fed and cared for,” she said.
Many pet owners have sent Taylor thank you notes for the “Wonderful pet food, supplies, toys and beds for my pet.”
One pet owner wrote, “Thank you for the new bed, shampoo and leash for my dog,” and, “Thank you for the cat food; it was very kind of you and very much appreciated.”
The Buena Park Coordinating Council may be reached at 714-521-3772. The Council is a nonprofit organization that is focused on helping provide services to those in need.
“The primary role of the organization is to provide families, seniors and the homeless access to food to maintain their nutritional needs.”
And now, it includes Taylor Michel’s Pet Pantry too.
